At De Jesus Family Chiropractic, we are proud to be the first office to offer Mechanical Motion Therapy in NEPA, a revolutionary new treatment technique that includes computerized adjustment technology and couples it with patient-assisted movement and patient resistance, allowing the patient to discover results that they may have never dreamed possible. The results are outstanding, and patients can “Feel Better and Function Higher” immediately!

Scientific evidence demonstrates that 80% of the population suffers from pain and inflammation that limits the ability to do everything from the basics of everyday life, such as getting dressed without pain, to being forced to avoid or limit social activities with friends and family. Finally, there is a proven technology available to change lives for the better.

MMT is a, doctor certified technology that is a combination of instrument technology coupled with simultaneous patient-assisted specific postures. This dual-motion therapy is the guiding principle of MMT. Specifically, dual-motion therapy is the treatment of a human being, with the patient actively participating in the treatment during the visit. It uses muscles, ligaments, joints, the nervous system and every other involved tissue component which may have an effect on individual results. During MMT, the patient moves in a very specific motion pattern while the MMT Specialist directs the instrument in a prescribed manner. This allows the doctor to utilize exactly the right amount of tension and force upon the tissues as the treatment is applied.

The first phase of Motion Therapy includes a medical interview, consultation and evaluation that focuses on core-motion assessment. This assessment has the goal of locating the potential sources of musculoskeletal symptoms, typically pointing to pain and lack of mobility and function. The initial assessment is also coupled with a diagnostic work-up, which utilizes motion studies as a direct participant in the treatment plan designed to restore the lack of motion. The restoration of motion in the human body as a whole while focusing on the condition and capability of the individual joint systems is the benchmark of MMT.

MMT body

Most commonly, musculoskeletal pain is linked to a dysfunction in muscle, ligament, joint capsule, or fascia (the connective tissue of the body). Each of these tissues contains specialized sensory receptors which sense or “tell” the nervous system to react in a protected or guarded manner. Unchecked, this leads to pain, inflammation, and limitations of motion and/or flexibility. As these tissues “lock” the injured body part into a position to avoid pain, these same tissues can shorten and at times, form scar tissue, making the problem worsen over time.

Mechanical Motion Therapy can have a powerful, pain relieving effect on the tissues containing the specialized receptors, even in instances where it has been present for years. MMT affects the sensation of pain by altering the patient’s pain threshold. In other words, it decreases the negative effect of these pain receptors while gaining increased motion and flexibility as a result.

People want a quick and comfortable solution that immediately improves the ability to function more effectively in life and reduces years of pain and inflammation. MMT addresses this desire for better health. Therefore, you may be happier, healthier and functioning at the level you want.

Take for example a shoulder treatment. The patient may be moving the shoulder through a specific range of motion, partially resisting in a certain range, while the doctor is using an exact protocol. We refer to this as motion-motion therapy. The results are far and away better and more immediate than anything else that has been experienced to date. This treatment gets results even after 20, 30, or 40 years of the patient suffering.
